This study examines the preservation of the traditional wedding customs of the Khatu Menangsi clan in Taman Baru Village, Kalianda, South Lampung, within the context of modernization. The tradition is not merely ceremonial, but also reflects the social structure, value system, and cultural identity of the indigenous Lampung community. Amid the influences of globalization, urbanization, and shifting mindsets among younger generations, this tradition faces significant challenges such as the erosion of communal values, declining youth involvement, and the simplification of ritual processes due to practical concerns over cost and time. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and community members, and documentation of cultural artifacts and practices. The findings reveal that preservation efforts are carried out through selective adaptation of non-essential elements of the ritual, while maintaining core values such as reverence for ancestors, social solidarity, and extended family cohesion. The roles of traditional leaders and family-based education are central to sustaining cultural continuity. Local government also supports these efforts through the restoration of traditional houses and the promotion of culture via regional festivals. This study concludes that modernization does not necessarily erode tradition; instead, it can provide an opportunity to transform cultural preservation efforts in a creative and contextual manner. The preservation of the Khatu Menangsi clan’s wedding customs requires synergy among the community, families, traditional authorities, and the state in managing cultural heritage sustainably.
