Vocational Education Policy and AI Challenges in the World of Work

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the workplace necessitates significant changes in vocational education policies to ensure graduates are prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the digital era. While vocational education plays a strategic role in cultivating a skilled and adaptive workforce, a gap exists between current curricula and the demands of AI-driven industries. This article aims to analyze vocational education policies in Indonesia and identify the challenges arising from the integration of AI into the workforce. A qualitative research method was employed, utilizing a literature review and descriptive analysis of policy documents, academic articles, and relevant reports. The study reveals that, despite progress in revitalizing vocational education and adopting AI technology for personalized and efficient learning, obstacles remain—such as curricular misalignment, limited technology training for educators, and insufficient collaboration between educational institutions and the technology industry. These findings offer valuable insights into the policy dynamics required for vocational education to remain responsive to digital and AI-driven transformations. In conclusion, strengthening synergy among the government, the education sector, and industry, alongside updating curricula to incorporate AI, is essential to bridging the skills gap and enhancing the competitiveness of the Indonesian workforce. Future research should conduct empirical studies to gain a more comprehensive understanding of how these policies are implemented in practice.
