Abstract

Humans are always involved in the use of language when interacting with others, and its relation to language is studied in the interdisciplinary field of linguistics called sociolinguistics. This study aims to observe the role of sociolinguistics in Arabic language learning by applying a communicative approach at a school in Cianjur. The methodology used is qualitative descriptive. The research data were obtained from the Arabic language learning process through the communicative approach. Data collection techniques included observation and interviews with teachers and students. The results show that Arabic language learning is well implemented using a communicative framework. Furthermore, sociolinguistics plays an important role in various aspects of learning, from the preparation of learning tools, the implementation of activities, to the use of language during the teaching and learning process. Based on the results and analysis of this study, it can be concluded that Arabic language learning contributes significantly to the study of sociolinguistics, especially in the application of the communicative framework in the classroom. This research contributes to the development of Arabic language pedagogy by offering a contextual model that integrates sociolinguistic principles with communicative teaching strategies, particularly in secondary education settings. It also provides practical insights for educators in designing language learning tools that are responsive to students’ social and linguistic environments.
